Collective Action on Climate
Cyclones, Hurricanes, Super Typhoons, floods, droughts are all result of manmade climate change. This has caused We have been watching the sufferings of countless victims millions of refugees and thousands of farm suicides. This
is the time to start some real good action.
Using Crop Residues is a Good Solution.
I have seen crop residues from cotton being burnt away causing local pollution and damage to soil nutrients. Instead of burning these residues we can process & use them as green fuels. The benefits are:
1. Small farmers also get additional income
2. We can reduce local unemployment problem and
3. We also replace coal with renewable or Green Fuels.
Global availability estimated at ~4.5 billions tons of surplus crop residues make this business infinitely scalable.
Chipping Cotton Stalk is a big Solution
Alternate Solutions: Coffee Husk, Eucalyptus bark, Chips of Eucalyptus, Ground nut husk, Rice husk & briquettes are some of the alternate solutions we have. From this list, we find chips of cotton stalk as a big solution. We have established
the process of converting crop residues into useful fuels.
We have successfully piloted 490 tons
We have supplied chipped cotton stalk to 4 large reputed cement makers in India in Gulbarga & Adilabad district.
1. Green Fuels supplied has been fed successfully in to the cement kilns.
2. It has been flowing well though the feeding system.
3. It has burnt well and is well received on quality front.
4. We have replaced ~490 tons of coal by green fuels, employed ~30 labourers, helped >100 farmers earn from their crop residues. The key learning is this idea can be scaled up & made sustainable.
Baling Paddy Straw is another Good Solution
In areas of high paddy agriculture there is a lot of paddy straw which is not used as fodder. Baling paddy straw & cotton stalk and transporting it to cement & power producers is another good solution. This needs to be validated
to make this Green Fuels business sustainable over the entire year.
Banyan’s Mission
Banyan was founded in 2005, with a mission to do social good and be sustainable. Our mission now is to become a sustainable supplier of green fuels. Our vision is to supply 1000 tons of green fuels every day to local industries.
This will also benefit over 50,000 small and medium farmers by way of income from crop residues. It is expected to generate ~1400 rural jobs.
In order to take this idea to a really sustainable level, we look forward to your support. Thanking you.
