We do not fit in a box is a week-long video art piece about stereotypes and generalizations made
on the LGBT community.
By literally trying and failing to fit 144 individuals in a box,
in 20,736 attempts, I will bring to evidence the silliness of generalization.
Concretely, I will be producing 20,736 mosaics out of 144 portraits of individuals from gay community. I will then put these mosaics into a video sequence that will run for an entire week.
Here's the maket for the work. Imagine each square belonging to a different face.
The resulting mosaics, though visually interesting, are broken faces, unrecognizable and deformed.
These failed attempts at creating unity represents the unrealistic aspect of generalization. Each
individual is unique, and you cannot fit a bunch of them in a box.
Deconstruction is a recuring theme in my work. It is the theme of my latest piece for example:

$2,500 Tipping Point Goal
The main challenges in creating this piece will be taking the 144 portraits of members of the gay community and programming the week-long sequence that is the piece.
To take the 144 portraits, I intend to reach out to the community by every means possible - this includes Facebook, Craigslist, Twitter, other social media platforms, word-of-mouth, and printed media. I also intend to reward the participants by offering
them a postcard of the project once it is complete!
As for the programming, I will need to hire some help. This is why I need funds for this project.
The programmer will help me deconstruct each portrait and rebuild them into the 20,736 possible mosaics, and then put them in a week long video sequence. Dealing with such a high amount of files require scripting and programing skils, which I don't have.
This is why I need help!
Many programmers have already contacted me with interest in the project, and are promising solutions to help its realization. But no one works for free...
The cost for a programmer to acheive this work is about $2,500.
There is also the question of when and where this project will be presented. Ideally, I would like to present it outdoors during the
Montreal Pride festival, in August 2013. The festival have shown great interest in this project and I will be officially pitching the idea on
April 30th. If I have the funds by them, there's no way they will refuse the project!
With the additional $1,000 I intend to rent the presentation equipments (projector and screen).
