Do you like to travel?
Explore new places, meet new faces and sample new cuisine?
Have you ever wanted to give back to the people where you were traveling to ... but you didn’t know how.
Let me introduce you to Tides of Change
Tides of Change is the revolutionary new system that is going to change Voluntourism in a big, big way. Designed to open the channels of communication between travelers who want to help and organizations that need help on the ground, Tides of Change is a
social platform with an aim toward social change. We’re turning good will into tangible results, providing volunteers to organizations in need.
Excuses why people don't volunteer:
*** Don't have enough time
*** Can not commit to long term projects
*** Can not find something they are interested in
*** Don't have enough $$ to volunteer
*** Don't know where to start
*** Don't know if the organisation is trust worthy
*** Need to be qualified
Why Tides of Change is Great!
*** It's free for volunteers
*** There are a range of themes to suit everyone including environment, education and animals
*** There are no time commitments YOU choose what length of time that suits you.
*** Volunteers will get to experience that Volunteer high. There is no better feeling then knowing you made a difference.
*** Create the link from you direct to organisations
*** There will be a review option so you can check out how other people went volunteering for that organisation
*** Most positions will not require any skills except a smile and kind heart
HOW DOES IT WORK
Tides of Change will be set up so that organisations can create a profile page and then list events for when they need volunteers. These events can be dropping goods off, 1 hour or 1 day events.
Once an organization lists an event, travelers who are logged in will be able to search for it by location, date, duration, and theme. After choosing an event from that search, travelers simply enroll and go on their way. The process could not be any more
streamlined and user-friendly
By connecting these two parties, who have traditionally met only by chance, we at Tides of Change hope to make “voluntourism” accessible to everyone who wants to participate. This does not mean that participants are agreeing to give up their vacations either:
whatever time you want to spare, we will find an organization with a similar need. With Tides of Change, you can enjoy your holiday and give something back.
WHY IS THIS PROJECT IMPORTANT TO ME
When I went on my first overseas surfing trip, I had a great time, but I felt that strong, underlying urge. I wanted to give something back. But I had a family to take care of, bills to pay, and a steady job: I couldn’t just run away from all those responsibilities
and take on a year-long volunteer placement position in a foreign country neither could I afford the thousands of dollars these placements cost.
I began taking English children’s books to Bali. I handed out some of the books to the local kids and donated others to schools. I had transported over 110 kg of books when I heard about the Surf and Social Good Summit, and I thought, here is something great
that I can play a part in. At first, I figured I would check it out, meet some new people and get some ideas that I could bring back to my book project. Instead I discovered something worth much more: surf voluntourism. It was as if a spark had gone off and
lit a fire inside me.
The people and various organisations that attended the Surf and Social Good Summit were doing powerful work but I saw a void that needed to be filled. I heard from people who were working on the ground for various organisations that required help whether
it be goods delivered to remote locations or half day events that were looking for volunteers.
On the other hand there were surfers, like myself who wanted to help but didn't know where to start.
That’s when my fuse exploded!
I thought why not create a platform that opens the channels of communication between organisations that need help and travelers looking to do something positive.
