Our Philosophy
We believe that all girls deserve a chance to become thriving, highly productive members of society.
Our Mission
The Lesson Lounge is committed to promoting wellbeing and character development in girls ages 11-18, through education, research and service.
The Current Situation
Youth living in low income communities often struggle to be successful in the face of great challenges and very little know-how. They attend schools where resources are limited, and expectations are low. Communities are often riddled
with crime and violence, substance abuse, teenage pregnancy and below-average academic performance. Girls frequently speak of losing family and friends to violence. Families are unstable, and girls lack strong support systems, as well as positive role models.
Our Solution
L.E.A.D. - The 'Leadership Empowerment Achieving Development' Program
The Lesson Lounge is passionate about helping girls develop the fortitude and skill set to thrive in the face of challenges. In response to the current situation, we are happy to launch L.E.A.D., a youth development program for
at risk girls, ages 11-18. We will provide a safe, suportive environment where girls will learn to identify their character strengths, and practice using them as they engage in day to day activities, interact with friends, and solve problems. Each girl will
also be paired with a mentor who will serve as positive role model and offer much needed guidance. They will learn the importance of giving back as they participate in community service activities, and will be taken on field trips in an effort to expose them
to more positive experiences.
Take a look at some of the character strengths that our girls will explore.
Our ultimate goal is to facilitate positive change in seven (7) areas:
Overall life satisfaction
Character development
Leadership
Critical thinking
Goal setting and attainment
Civic involvement
