What is stick a smile?
stick a smile is a global movement of people dedicated to making the world a happier place through the power of smiling. We do this by giving out free stickers to anyone that asks. Each sticker has a quote reminding you to smile written upon it. You give these stickers out to a person or you stick them somewhere in the hopes of making a person smile!
Why does this matter?
The basis of this concept is that by making someone else happier you, yourself, will be happier in return.
It's a bold idea but let me prove it to you: in 2014, 37.6 out of 100,000 aged 85+ Australian men committed suicide. That's three times the national average! Well why is this? As men get older, they lose their connection with the outside world as the people who they lived their life with pass away around them. They have no meaningful, positive interactions in their day to day life. This leads to depression rates skyrocketing throughout this age group. Furthermore there is a link that untreated depression can lead to higher risk of possible suicide. (ABS)
Therefore if I could empower people, who may be lost and anxious in today's demanding world devoid of positive experience, with a tool to make other people happier with maybe I've got a shot at making a heap of people much, much more, well to put it simply, happy!
So I utilised the power of smiling - the utmost expression of happiness. There are a heap of studies which show the amazing benefits of smiling - from emotional to psychological to physical benefits basically science says the more you smile, the more happy and prosperous you will subsequently become.
Impact
Over the past 5 months, I have distributed about 5000 stickers to over 20 countries. People message me or email me their stories everyday about when they handed out stickers or stuck a sticker somewhere and just felt so good doing it after they saw people smiling either from the interaction i.e. "Here's a free sticker, I want to make you smile." or just by reading the sticker! An example of this can be found when I mailed some stickers to this girl in England who gave out stickers to her teachers who took on the message of remembering to smile, after the interaction with the student and reading the stickers and the girl said that the school was "happy and elevated in the first time in forever" just due to her teachers being profoundly affected by the message the stickers were portraying and took on the message and remembered to smile.
Reason why I've started this campaign
I've been running stick a smile out of my own personal funds raised from over two years of part time work however those rapidly decreasing in existence. With these funds, I can only fund stick a smile for one more month.
If I can raise $2500 from this campaign, minusing the cost of production and shipping from the rewards of the campaign, I’ll be able to fund stick a smile for another 5 months (factoring in growth).
In that time, I will set up a donation system which upon funding this movement will be more sustainable. So please help me fund this movement and together we can make more people smile than you could have ever imagined! :))
