The world has been GIVING money and food away to the people of Malawi, but we are here for them to TEACH how to raise needed resources on their own!
We are looking to raise $3900 to support 3 Malawian charities. Here are things we will do with the funds.
-Visiting Malawi for 2 month from 6/19, 2017.
-Teaching Digital Marketing to the charities.
-Managing their Websites and Social Media Accounts with Malawian staffs for a month.
-Conduct photo shoots for free.
While these charities are changing and saving people’s lives every day, they are struggling with ensuring their financial capabilities. Donations are one way, but we are not focusing on something temporarily, since donations can stop any day. That’s why we decided to teach, so that they can carry on by themselves.
In the end, only the people of Malawi can solve poverty, the food crisis, and other issues related to their country. We can help them, however, to take the first step. By being part of this project, you can support local charities and the people of Malawi over a much longer term than other projects, because knowledge is something that will last forever!
About Kohei
My name is Kohei Hirota. I am now studying at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Oita prefecture in Japan as a senior bachelors student of marketing. My main interest is in marketing, since you can change people’s perspectives, values, behaviors, and even lives by communicating with customers. What is more, you can make a positive impact on society, depending on how you use it. For example you could save millions of people in Africa by promoting social business with proper marketing strategies.
I have been studying Marketing and Business for 4 years and have been working at several companies in Japan as a digital marketing intern. Last year in 2016, I had my life changing event. I worked at one of the biggest international car manufacturers in Tokyo for 3 months. At first I was really excited to perform my ability there, however what I found out at the end was different from my expectation. I really loved the amazing people I worked with, yet selling thousands of cars was not really meaningful to me and that was the first time in my life that I realized I wanted to work on something which creates much more social value.
After the internship I tried to find the next step for my future career, seeking somewhere I could utilize my ability to create a better society...
How was this project established?
In March 2017, I conducted a global video project in Tokyo. It was for the International Day for Elimination of Racial Discrimination by United Nations. Fortunately since we have great variety of cultures and nationalities in our university, I could get much support from outside Japan. That was the time I met Donex Mumba through my university friends. We worked hard on the video to show how much we should appreciate our diversity and how amazing it is. After the project, we became good friends. We chated, skyped, and talked about many things in Japan ad Malawi. Through the conversations I learned much about the situation of Malawi and we both were so enthusiastic about how we could make a positive changes in Malawi. I asked myself “What do I have?”. The answer was supporting charities by Digital Marketing. That is how this project started.
My Passion & Message
The more I learn about the situation of Africa, the more I see the difference between my life in Japan and those in underdeveloped countries. For instance, some people in Malawi don’t even get the opportunity to go to secondary school to study. It’s up to the each individual whether they study hard enough or not , however I strongly think that the opportunity should be given to everyone as much as possible in the education and also other fields. Considering the point, the situation in Malawi is quite serious. I know I can not change the entire nation like a hero, but by working on this project I wanna support our partner charities, doing amazing work for better food supply, education, health care, and so on to make small changes. Also by conducting this project, I want to spread the word and raise the awareness of Malawi among the young generation, so that more people will take action in the future. Big changes always start from small scale activities with a few people, and I hope can be a part of it. You might think Malawi is just too far away and can not feel so close to you, but it is actually happening and so many people are already working on it. We are all from the same humankind and it’s just a matter of where you are born. If you agree with me, even a small contribution would make a difference, so please support us and be a part of this movement.
Partner Charities
Here are our partner charities for this project. Unlike other international charities, most of our partner charities are run by LOCAL MALAWIANS! By directly working with and teaching digital marketing to the local people, we will ensure its sustainability.
-Tiyeni (Mzuzu, Malawi)
Promoting sustainable and efficient farming methods. They engaged more than 20 villages including 200 farmers in the last 6 months.
-Youth of The Vision Organization (Nkhotakota, Malawi)
Operating kindergarten and supporting HIV patients.
-Seibo Japan (Tokyo, Japan)
Providing school meals to the children in the northern area of Malawi. *We are only conducting photo shoots in Malawi and donating pictures for this organization in Japan.
About Donex
-I got a supportive local project partner! He is Donex Mumba, a Co-founder of this project, from Mzuzu City. He is a nurse and will be handling my stay in Malawi. Very socialable and with outstanding communication skills in both Chewa(local language) and English.
-Follow me on Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube for more fresh updates! Here is my website just for your referenece.
Use of funds
$2000 Tipping
This is not enough for the entire project, however this could bring me to Malawi and conduct the plan with Tiyeni in Mzuzu for a month.
$3900 Stretch
This covers all the project contents and the costs, including flights, travel, visas, and living expenses including teaching Digital Marketing and Photo shoots. This is what we really need to reach in order to fully support the charities to become sustainable in fund raising.

-Tiyeni (Mzuzu, Malawi)
-Youth of The Vision Organization (Nkhotakota, Malawi)
-Seibo Japan(Tokyo, Japan)
