"A child without education is like a bird without wings."
~Tibetan Proverb
Education is the Key
Education is the key to uplifting not just the person, but their communities and entire societies. We find that often the quality of education and the ability to participate is impacted by finances. It is well documented that many children don't have the
right tools to learn, because their parents or the school district don't have the means to provide these. Often these students feel embarrassed in the classroom and refuse to tell the teachers why it is that they show up without their school supplies. This
starts on elementary school level and sets the tone for a student's school career.
We see a future where education is not just a basic right, but where students are able to attend good institutions across the board independent from the neighborhood they live in and where students are provided with the proper tools to participate equally.
Our Call to Action
With our backpack drive, we want to make a small difference on a local level by providing young students in need with school backpacks and supplies, such as pencils/pens, erasers, crayons, note books, ring binders, protractors, etc. so that they can participate
in the classroom. We want students to get excited about school and passionate about learning, which will open up unlimited opportunities for their lives.
Maybe someone else will catch the bug and carry on the torch in their own town...
Background and Goal
My name is Olivier, and after the summer I will attend 11th grade at New Rochelle High School.
Our city is great, a true representation of what the U.S. are about. People from diverse backgrounds, nationalities and ethnicities come together. Nevertheless, between 2009 and 2013 about 12.4% of people lived below the poverty line. For these people,
obtaining basic necessities is already a struggle and supplying their children with costly school supplies is often not possible.
The goal here today is to raise money and awareness for these students. Every dollar matters and will directly benefit the students. We will purchase supplies in bulk and provide the fully equipped school backpacks to shelters and churches. For example,
in 2013 we achieved our goal of 45 backpacks, which were provided to OASIS, homeless shelter.
We are very thankful and we appreciate your support. We only get the idea rolling, but this would not be possible without your financial support!!!
