The 4th Annual Native American Heritage Day Concert is a unique opportunity for local native artists to share their art, culture and music with the diverse populations that make up our community. This event is free to the public.
Here is our poster from last year's event:
Why do we produce this event every year?
Whatcom County, where Bellingham is located, owes much of its cultural richness to the contributions of our earliest people. To understand the history of our region is to honor and appreciate the history of its original inhabitants.
By honoring the history of the original inhabitants of this land, we create the opportunity to honor the heritage and culture of everyone who has come to live in our community.
Our desired outcomes:
*Creating wholesome, intercultural communities
*Bringing visibility to local Native American musicians and performers

*Celebrating cultural heritage encourages peaceful and respectful interactions between the diverse populations that make up our community.
*As a result, discrimination and stereotyping are less likely to occur.
*The artists we chose bring beautiful music to the community, blending their blend their ethnic melodies with other genres - classical, jazz or blues and more.
*Making a living as a musician can be challenging. We offer the musicians that play at Native American Heritage Day Concert a performance fee to honor their talent and their time.
*The musicians can offer their CDs and DVDs to attendees, hopefully creating a following for their music.
*Performing at Native American Heritage Day Concert brings visibility to the artists. This hopefully results in paying engagements for them.

HonorWorks is a 501c3 nonprofit organization whose mission it is to create and ignite the potential for Honor among all people by encouraging audiences to freely and authentically express their skills, gifts and talent.
Our main audiences include at-risk youth and underserved populations. Through music and Native storytelling we demonstrate and model the concept of Honor, and how honoring ourselves and other can improve personal lives as well as our community as a whole.
