As a working artistic cultural experience, students will travel to Mexico City, with Artists Todd Poteet and Alex Baer, to study Diego Rivera murals, Mayan and Aztec cultures, and contemporary Mexican Art.
Each day they will be engaged in the artistic process of drawing, photographing, painting and collaging.
The group will travel to Hacienda Santa Maria Xalostoc where local guest artists and Art Institute artists will work with students from TIPAV in Plein Air drawing and painting. We will create a public art mural as
part of an artistic collaboration in Tlaxco. During the duration of their stay, students will work with artists as they explore the culture and arts of Mexico. Participants will visit artists’ communities in Apizaco & Puebla.
This is a life changing experience for these young artists. It opens them to new ways of working, influences, and artistic traditions.
Previous trips to Mexico, Barcelona, Italy, and Montreal have led to international student and teacher exchanges, artistic collaborations, college scholarships, new works of art and life long friendships.'
The students we're helping are on scholarship, and this is a rare opportunity for them to have an intercultural experience. The trip will not only broaden their horizons, but will help them build a stronger portfolio
of work for college, increasing the opportunity for college scholarships.
Help us to change lives through the arts.
