Good day. My name is Mark J. Henning Jr. I started Hair for a Care in 2011 to raise money for various charities. In 2011 and 2012, I raised money for the Yellow Ribbon Fund to support Disabled Veterans by auctioning off my beard, with the high bidder
deciding what I did with it, no matter how crazy. Each year, it was decided that I continue to grow it out.
This year, I am raising money for Breast Cancer Awareness. This October, if I reach my tipping point goal, I will dye my hair for the entire month of October, as October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Pink is the recognised color for Breast
Cancer Awareness.
World wide, Breast Cancer accounts for 22.9% of all cancers in Women. In 2009, there were 211,731 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed in women, with 40,676 women dieing of breast cancer. The American Cancer Society estimates that this year, about 2,240
new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed among men, and about 410 men will die of breast cancer. Even though breast cancer is more than 100 times more common in women than in men, men tend to have poorer outcomes due to delays in diagnosis.
As I am on a fixed income due to a military disability, I am unable to donate much money, but it is my hope that I can inspire others to donate to charities which help people in need.
Once my hair is dyed, I will submit pictures of it to facebook.com/HairforaCare
