Fill The Jar
Experiencing or witnessing family violence has a devastating impact on all children and can have serious short and long term consequences on their health, wellbeing and development; and being a migrant child can make it even more complicated. For that reason
inTouch, Multicultural Centre Against Family Violence, have created The Empty Jar. javascript:mctmp(0);

A snapshot of who we see and what we do at inTouch in 2012/2013
What began as an offer to produce colouring pages for children particpating in InTouch counselling programs, soon became a collaboration between Judith Martinez, Craig Billingham (Pablo Browne author/illustrator duo) and Jennifer Dawson, inTouch psychologist/author,
to create The Empty Jar.
The Empty Jar would not have been possible without the voluntary contribution of the Pablo Browne team. We are most appreciative of the endless hours, effort and creativility they contributed to the creation of
The Empty Jar.
Recently launched at the Melbourne Writer’s Festival 2014, The Empty
Jar is a children’s picture book about Sunni, a young girl who finds strength and courage to overcome the challenges of family breakdown alongside being the ‘new kid’ at school.

The Empty Jar, albeit an important element, is just one component of an entire therapeutic pack for professionals working with children from migrant and ethnic communities.
Reflecting the images from ‘The Empty Jar’ we want to produce:
- ** Emotion cards
- ** Strength stickers
- ** Colouring pages
- ** Parenting and practitioner tip sheets
- ** Practitioner Training Workshops

We need community support to make this happen.
It is our sincere hope that by increasing understanding and awareness of family violence and its impact on children from diverse backgrounds we will improve societal responses to children affected by abuse.
There are very few culturally sensitive resources to assist migrant and ethnic children who have experienced family violence. It is important that we provide a space for these children, that we hear their voices, listen to their stories and help them heal.
These culturally sensitive resources will help practitioners, social workers and other professionals who support migrant and ethnic children, who have experienced family violence, to work out their feelings, understand their fears and find helpful ways to
process and express their difficult thoughts.
By developing an entire therapeutic pack, including The Empty Jar, and training workshop we will reach practitioners, helping them find sensitive and culturally appropriate ways to support our newest and smallest Australians.
It is important that we have a therapeutic pack and tools that are culturally sensitive depicting feelings, emotions and images that migrant and ethnic children can identify with and relate to.
So please share this through social media, email, pigeon carrier and all other forms of communication you can think of to get the word out.
The campaign only runs for 42 days!
So donate and share now...rather than later.
