In the past few years, Healing the Child Within has been able to provide comprehensive trauma-informed care for over 100 children and families living in the Northwest corner of Connecticut. Healing the Child Within is motivated to obtain
a larger, even more accessible space that can accommodate additional therapists and adjunctive treatments for supporting those in our community affected by psychological traumas.
We have the opportunity to purchase a historic 4,500 square foot dually zoned home in the center of Winsted to create this center, and after a short period of renovation, we will be able to expand our expertise and house six to 10 therapists, thus providing
holistic, evidence-based trauma-informed therapy to many more children, families, and adults.
More than 60% of youth under the age of 17 have been exposed to crime, violence and abuse…and 26% of children in the United States will witness or experience a traumatic event before they turn four. Young children exposed to five or more significant adverse
experiences in the first three years of childhood face a 76% likelihood of having one or more delays in their language, emotional or brain development. As the number of traumatic events experienced during childhood increases, the likelihood of lifelong physical
and behavioral health consequences multiples, placing these children at increased risk for developing heart and liver diseases, obesity, diabetes, depression, substance abuse, and suicidality. Won't you consider helping us give the children and families
