Building a Library for Displaced Children in Thailand
Many children in towns near the Burmese border are displaced because of war and ethnic cleansing by the Burmese government. They live in poor villages with no access to books, videos, computers, or other knowledge about the world outside. They have been
denied their human rights their entire lives, and they do not have the chance to resettle in a third country. I want to make their lives in Thailand worth something great. I believe that education is the key to their bright future. The library will help them
feel hopeful about their lives and gain a more global vision.
We really need your help with building materials, books, computers, and educational posters.
To build up a library is to create a life. It is never just a random collection of books. -Carlos Maria Dominguez
Recent accomplishments
Since I was resettled to the United States, I have been studying very hard and I graduated from community college with honors and a scholarship. I founded a regional student group called "American and Refugee Students for Closer Connection." We have been
helping newly arrived refugee youth with their transition to the U.S. Now it is time to show my concern for the people who not fortunate enough to get refugee status and be resettled. I want to help them move forward with their lives.
What needs to be done:
$20 can buy books and videos.
$40 can buy a bookcase.
$100 can buy lumber for the floor.
$200 can buy equipment and Internet access for one year.
$500 can buy a computer or a projector.
$1000 can buy the materials and supplies to maintain the library information system for the first year.
Please help me share the children's dream of a new library where they can learn to read and start their path to a brighter future.
