Our Story:
The idea behind Work Untitled Magazine came about inadvertently when Jeffrey Millet and Olivia Ramos agreed to argue in writing. The two friends attended the same undergraduate (UF) and graduate (Columbia) programs and found that writing down constructive criticism was oxygenating. Their correspondence became a critical part of their process.
Olivia continued this practice during her residency at Cannonball Miami, where she met Joseriberto Perez. Once again, the dialogue between the two artists, a "purge of impractical concepts," became an essential practice that refined and gave new purpose to their work.
"We should publish these," they thought. This simple idea gave rise to a more dynamic platform with a vision for many artists to participate, sharing their process with art lovers and forming deeper connections with the art itself.
5 years, 13 issues, and 76 artists later, Olivia was awarded for The Knight Arts Challenge Grant, heralding an opportunity to keep the conversation going and transform WU from a constructive-but-still-quite-personal dialogue between a small group of artists, to something that could expand the idea of publishing critical conversations with the global artistic community.
