Help TIEs continue our intercultural co-teaching program in Nepal & expand into Thailand!
What is TIEs?
TIEs (Two-way Intercultural Exchanges) is a nonprofit project that seeks to improve teaching worldwide. Through the TIEs program, US teachers visit schools in foreign countries during their summer breaks and co-teach alongside local teachers. Co-teaching is a great way for teachers to share their unique teaching methods. At TIEs, both the US and foreign teachers are expected to learn from each other. Neither group is considered to have superior expertise.
By stepping outside of their cultural comfort zones, teachers can gain new ideas about education. We've been running our summer program in Lalitpur, Nepal since 2016. Over the years, our program participants have gained insight about things like classroom management, language learning, curriculum planning, cross-cultural communication, and mindfulness for students.
What's new with TIEs in 2019?
We are fundraising to continue our yearly summer program in Nepal, as well as expand our program into a second country: Thailand. We've found with an exciting partner school in Chiang Mai, Thailand that is eager to host us.
In addition, we will be giving a Nepali teacher the opportunity to go abroad and join us for our program in Thailand.
Why donate to TIEs?
Teaching is one of the most underpaid professions worldwide. Our US teacher participants must pay the majority of the cost of their flights, but TIEs aims to help them out with a partial subsidy. Many teachers couldn't afford to go abroad for a project like this without the financial assistance that TIEs provides, And when the US teachers return home, they'll have new teaching methods and cultural insight to better prepare them for the challenges of today's diverse US classrooms.
Be a part of the TIEs community!
All we need now are the financial contributions of people who believe in our mission and want us to continue the work we do. Please consider becoming a part of the TIEs community by supporting our campaign!
