Hi! We are The Nappy Collective and we love collaboration, community and are passionate about providing support to mums in crisis.
About Us
We are a community based charity, who twice a year (May & October) run national campaigns to collect leftover unused disposable nappies. These nappies are then sorted, packed and swiftly redistributed to organisations that support families in crisis or in
need.
Providing these families with nappies frees up valuable time and resources, allowing them to focus on caring for their children and managing the other daily challenges they face.
We would like to become sustainable by creating our own revenue streams. Our first step in achieving this will be to launch our social enterprise selling baby giftware.
Become a part of The Collective by supporting our Start Some Good campaign to get our first run of baby giftware products to market.
Our First Revenue Model - The Nappy Collective Baby Giftware range
We are launching our Start Some Good Campaign to assist us in getting our first product in the range to market - our Nappy Wallets.
The Nappy Wallets
We know time is valuable to parents - our Nappy Wallets are designed to help keep organised and to have all the basic essentials at hand and ready to go.
No need for nappies? No Worries! Our nappy wallets are not only highly functional, but they are versatile too! Use it as a makeup bag, clutch or pencil case.
Baby Giftware with a triple bottom line
Our Nappy Wallets are more than just a must have baby item, they have a number of social benefits.
1. Environment - All products will be made using reclaimed fabrics, making use of seconds, old denim and off cuts otherwise headed for landfill
2. Empowering the community - The products will be manufactured by The Social Studio, a social enterprise based in Melbourne that provide skills training and employment opportunities to new immigrants
3. Supporting mums in crisis - All sale proceeds will do directly to funding the operations of The Nappy Collective so we can continue to deliver our program and support mums in need.
More About The Nappy Collective
Why Leftover Nappies?
Babies grow fast, sometimes literally overnight, so it is not unusual for a baby or toddler to grow out of a size of nappy part way through a packet or box of nappies leaving parents with surplus nappies. These surplus nappies are common in households for
many other reasons too, parents may have tried or accidentally purchased a new brand of nappy which didn't suit their child, left and forgot nappies with a career or grandparent and after toilet training. These nappies are usually passed on to friends, kept
for their next child or sadly even throw away.
Nappies are a basic essential child care need. Families with limited incomes may have to choose between clean nappies and other basic needs such as food for themselves. Lack of frequent nappy changes can cause subsequent health issues, can be very distressful
for an infant and due to constant crying can significantly increase the risk of abuse. Lack of ability to supply nappies has also been linked to stress and depression of mothers, which can in turn impact the healthy development of the child.
OUR IMPACT
By collecting and distributing surplus unused nappies we can not only reduce waste but provide valuable resource to disadvantaged families, significantly reducing a financial burden and assisting with healthy growth and development of their children in early
childhood. The nappies provide relief to families in crisis, build their parenting confidence and allow them to have more time to focus their energy on parenting and other daily challenges they face.
"This nappy donation has meant I can use the money I have saved on not having to buy them on milk and food for my children"
We also provide an opportunity for the community to engage with philanthropy in a non-monetary, accessible and tangible way. Our donors have really engaged in our organisation, and know how hard it is to raise a child; they feel great knowing that their
surplus nappies are making a meaningful difference to another parent.
OUR GROWTH OPPORTUNITY
The need for nappies is immense; during our last collective in May 2015, we ran the campaign across 17 cities in Australia. In just 2 weeks we collected 247k nappies, within the next 2 weeks all the nappies had been distributed, and 2 weeks after that our
beneficiaries were already asking for more. With 350,000 babies born every year in Australia there is huge potential to expand our reach and be constantly engaging with new parents.
We are inviting you to become a part of the Collective by supporting our campaign and allowing us to continue to do what we are passionate about - Helping mums in crisis.
