What is Frishta?
Frishta is a purpose-built 'children's village', for orphaned or severely disadvantaged children in the Punjab, Northern India. It's run by
Nigel and Rachel, who left the UK 7 years ago dreaming of a place where these children could find a stable home, a loving family, and an education.
There are hundreds of orphaned and struggling children in the Punjab, but Frishta is a deliberately small community (of 40 children plus house-parents). The village focuses on doing family 'excellently', rather than on a huge scale - so the children are
given the best opportunity to become strong-hearted change-makers of the future.

So many children! So tiny a bus...
The village has expanded rapidly: 13 new children have arrived in the last few months. That's much faster growth than expected, and the existing school bus no longer has the capacity to carry all the children on the half hour journey to school. A
larger bus is needed for the new school term ...which begins in July!
When asked about the bus one of the children, age 8, said:
“Before I came to Frishta I never went to school. Now I have started to learn to read and write. My teacher says I am trying hard and one day I want to be a Doctor. I want to carry on learning, but we are too many for our bus
and Sumesh our driver says we can’t all fit in. Please help us to raise money to buy a new bus, so that Sumesh can drive us all to school and not get told off by the Police.”
