When exhaustion, stress and depletion become the norm, self-care is radical.
YOU ARE THE CHANGE WE NEED IN THIS WORLD!
A bit about you
You are a woman with incredible gifts to share, you work hard - too hard sometimes - to create an positive impact in the world. Whether you are raising the next generation, saving the rainforests or making consciousness raising art-- we need you in top form!
“The world needs your medicine, woman” Sarah Durham Wilson
The stresses of daily life and the issues facing the planet today are wearing you down; you're craving a little more time and space to catch a (deep) breath and reconnect with yourself.
Imagine rising each day and literally put yourself first by crafting a morning routine with journaling and meditation.
The Radical Self Journal gives you daily writing prompts to reflect on various aspects of self-care; including Routine & Rhythm, Boundaries; Creative Expression; Relationship with Nature; Spirituality; Mindfulness & Mindset; Community Care and Conscious Activism. By writing each day you come in to conversation with yourself; you'll reflect on events passed and set intentions for the days to come. Over the 14 week writing journey you will better understand what you truly need and the courage and self-compassion to do something about it!
A bit about me
I’m Kate Alexandra, Founder of Radical Self-Care Project, yoga teacher, women's circle facilitator and mama of boys. It is my deepest honour to walk with women like you on the journey towards radical, authentic and wholehearted self-care. I have been on this conscious self-care path for 5 years and continue to walk it every single day.
My journey to self-care began back in 2012. It was a sunny and clear winter’s day and after 24 hours of labour a slippery pink baby was pulled from my abdomen. In that moment, like a lame seagull rising from a sandy chip bucket in a storm - I became a mother. I wish I could say I felt like the phoenix, but… I didn’t. I was in incredible pain, and filled to the brim with fear and self-doubt. Undiagnosed post-natal anxiety, crippling insomnia and recurring thoughts of self-harm took me in to a really dark place.
When I look back at the woman I was then – she was a shadow of a woman - my heart still aches and my eyes still prick with tears. I just want to hold her and whisper in her ear: “It does get better, you will rise!”
My son Bodhi, true to his name, brought the awakening I needed. When he was just five months old and still breastfeeding, I enrolled in my yoga teacher training. This was made possible with the incredible support of my family, who brought him over each day of the training so I could feed him! I had been practicing yoga most of my life, and since suffering postnatal anxiety and insomnia, Yoga Nidra meditation (more on this later) had become my life raft. It was the one thing that actually worked to help rebuild my mental health. I didn’t plan on teaching yoga; I just wanted to pursue in-depth study of this incredible practice that was helping me heal. (I opened a home studio 4 months later)
THE RADICAL SELF JOURNAL
I believe journaling is one of the most wonderful and therapeutic ways to have a conversation with yourself. I’ve been journaling since I was seven years old and regularly have a bunch of different ones on the go. My current journal set up includes: a beautiful blank journal for free writing, a lunar journal for tracking the moon phases and a menstrual journal to chart my menstrual cycle.
In the Radical Self Journal I have pulled together space for all these; a
cycle tracker to chart the lunar phases and my menstrual cycle,
alongside the radical self-care writing promtps, some of which are for
writing, others for mediating on, plus there are a few creative prompts
and some fun experiential exercises.
Nine months in the making with the support of two brilliant creative
collaborators; editor Mira Rao and artist & designer- Anna Roszko and, can I just say, I am so so excited to share it with you. I cannot wait for you to get your a copy to have on your bedside table, in your bag as you go out on a bush walk or with you as you have your morning cuppa.
The Radical Self Journal is a safe container in which to explore your sacred inner life and create a nourishing morning ritual for yourself. Each day you will be given a prompt to inspire your writing, and the invitation to meditate. By exploring 14 self-care themes over 14 weeks you will begin learning what works best for you and setting yourself up with a solid foundation for a lifetime of self-care.
There is also a Cycle Tracker to track the lunar phases and your menstrual cycle (if you have one) so you can chart changes the ebbs and flows in energy and mood over the month. Do this 3 times over the 100 days and you'll be able to look back over for emerging patterns which might give you more clues to how you can make better choices to support your well-being.

WHY WE NEED RADICAL SELF-CARE aka "Manifesto-ish"
Self-care is so much more than the “treat yo-self” activities we are sold by the health and beauty industries; haircuts, manicures, green smoothies, a bit of lippy and an online shopping spree are not the limit of 'self-care.
Authentic self-care is the work of truly knowing and caring for ourselves, so we may become better able to give love and care to others; positively impacting the world by embodying our values, living wholeheartedly and knowing what we stand for.
The journey to authentic self-care can be a tough one, especially if you were not raised to know love and care; you are working really hard and are burned out; you are nurturing small humans and barely have a moment to breathe; you live with a chronic illness or mental health issues.
The practice of intentional self-care may just change your life - radically; connecting you to your deepest needs and most heartfelt desires- the essence of who you are.
