25 Wounded Warrior Marines Will Soon Become Ceritified Umpires
The Marine Wounded Warrior Battalion-East is dedicatd to the rehabilitation and reintedgration of ill and wounded Marines to prepare them for return to either active duty or civilian life. One expressed segment of this mission is to provide job skills training
which may lead to a vocation or avocation. The Colorado Collegiate Umpire Association is supporting the WWBn-E mission by providing such training and guaranteed employment for those who complete the specialized umpire course and relocate to the Denver Metro
Area.
Some of the Marines who complete the program, and who have been medically cleared for an extended stay, will remain in Denver as WWBn-E interns and work with CCUA members throughtout the summer. Others will return to Camp LeJeune but CCUA will provide job
placement through its national contacts with other umpire associations.
CCUA and Corporate Partners
This training must be fully funded by the CCUA and its corporate partners. The Marine Corps and WWBn-E does not endorse this fund raising carried on by the CCUA, but welcomes the involvement of CCUA and its partners in completing its mission of rehabilitation
and reintegration.
Becoming an umpire is not cheap. While CCUA is providing umpire training free of charge (tuition is usually $200.00 per person), funds must be raised to provide for transportation, lodging, meals, uniforms and equipment. The total cost to bring a Wounded
Marine Hero to Denver is $1,500.00.
The CCUA and its partners have raised a fourth of the required funds. Negotiations are on-going with uniform suppliers, hotel corporations, and car rental agencies. While we expect that each of these entities would like to participate with us, they will
only provide reduced costs for their services and products.
Your donation will go directly to the CCUA / Wounded Warrior Umpire Training Intensive. You will be our partner is restoring a Marine Wounded Warrior to a productive life and providing mind, spirit, body, and familty rehabilitation.
For more information and to verify the CCUA / WWB-E partnership in this project please contact Major Greg Wilson; WWBn-E Adjutant/S-1 at 760-964-3912 or Dan Weikle; CCUA Adfministrator at 303. 919-1956.
