My name is Lorinda Coelho. I am an immigrant from Venezuela who migrated to the U.S. eight years ago with a dream to build a family while achieving personal and professional stability and a quality of life that, unfortunately in my country Venezuela, I could
not obtain given the social and political conditions, as well as the high rates of violence.
My family is comprised of my husband and my 4 children Alfredo, Manuel, Luis, Camila and Gabriel. We fought our way as immigrants, and we know the challenges that a Hispanic family faces in order to move forward
into a new culture. We understand the range of feelings that come with years of struggle to seek a better future--in many cases feelings of detachment, loneliness, depression, which are common to our community and people who have left their comfort zone, their
family, their friends, even professions and businesses because of the possibility of realizing their dreams.
That is why we are motivated to create a free magazine aimed at the Hispanic community we call: Progress and Opportunities Magazine. We want this to be a medium in which our community will find valuable content that motivates them to achieve greater and more
rapid integration into British culture. We also hope they will find it to be an educational tool that gives them valuable information regarding the full range of opportunities that can be used to achieve their dreams and overcome barriers found along the way.
Our Vision is to be the free magazine aimed at the Educating and Integrating the largest Hispanic population of the United States.
Our mission is to edit and publish a free Spanish-language print media with educational information to motivate and support the Growth, Training and Integration of the Hispanic community in the United States.
I have practiced as an education professional for over 18 years, and I strongly believe that education is the most important way to achieve cultural integration and improved quality of life. We are fortunate to have regular collaborators who have believed in
this dream.
By providing educational and motivational content, this magazine can accelerate the integration of the Hispanic community to the American Society without losing their roots.
The magazine represents an opportunity to progress through education, stay motivated, know the laws, and learn about new technology, social media, and social entrepreneurship. It will also provide information that
will strenghten community campaigns on topics such as domestic violence, substance abuse in young people, gangs, and child abuse, among others.
At a time when immigration reform is expected, there are millions of Hispanics who require support to effectively take advantage of every opportunity to progress that is presented and effectively integrate into American
society.
