A year and a half ago I met Silvia Anyango Ogira. Whenever I became lost in the hundreds of issues we face as a world today, I would return to Silvia and the diverse services she provides for her community. In a village of 2,000 people, Silvia is the only clinician, meaning the only one able to treat malaria, HIV/AIDS, pregnancy complications, and other illness.
But her clinic is only a small part of her and her husband's organization ABBA. She runs a school and orphanage for the forgotten youth, cares for the left-behind grandmothers, and tends to her farms to feed the local community, with the assistance of her husband. When my own living situation in the community of Kochia became unsafe, Silvia's home opened its doors and already had a bed made for me. I spent most of my days by her side, watching and learning. Two months was all it took for me to remain inspired for almost two years now. I owe a great deal of debt to these beautiful people and hope this fundraiser is a place to start.
When Silvia and I last spoke, she was the broken one. Silvia's mother died in February of this year, and now her father has recently passed. Burial is extremely expensive, as well as emotionally taxing, taking away from the demanding labor of all that is ABBA. I wish I had the money, wish I had more time, wish I could do more than run a fundraiser an ocean away.
If I can raise even $100, that is enough to make an impactful difference in the future of ABBA. If you are willing, please share and donate.
Thank you for your time,
Montanna Binder
