Pink Lightning believes in young people.
We do this by providing young women with paid work while they study.
They then have a solid work history on their resumes upon completion of their qualifications.
We also provide them with youth work and case management support throughout this process and provide a caring environment to work in and a load of other fun, life affirming activities.
BUT WE NEED A WEBSITE!
The Pink Lightning social enterprise includes the following components,
1. Each intake (4 per year) involves 8-10 young women who are engaged in a two week pre-employment training program at MYC’s Skills Development
Centre in Brunswick. This training include modules in manicuring, nail science and nail art, communication skills, appearance, reslience, confidence, healthy relationships, make-up for the workforce, social etiquette and other activities that are designed
to increase 'social capital' as designed by MYC and based on best practice and evidence based research.
2. Participants are enrolled in a Certificate III in Beauty Services through a registered training organisation in the Melbourne CBD which is easily accessed via public transport. They attend a minimum
of three days a week on days that suit their other commitments. This takes between three to five months for participants to complete depending on competency levels.
3. Trainees form teams of 3-5 and provide manicure services to a range of clients that MYC has sourced. They include community organisations, government agencies, retirement villages,
universities, private parties etc. Each team is supervised and supported by a MYC Youth Worker to ensure success. The teams meet at MYC Brunswick in their uniforms and are taken to their place of work by MYC staff and then dropped back to MYC upon completion
of their daily project (can you see how a WEBSITE would be handy)!
4. MYC works continuously in seeking more permanent employment opportunities for trainees in order to transition them into full time employment once they have graduated. As participants make this transition,
new participants will back fill available positions within the Pink Lightning social enterprise.
A WEBSITE is a great platform for this!
The young ladies will have one on one intensive placement support by MYC throughout the program and for six months after they have been placed into employment.
Which is awesome!
