Who We Are
We are designers for social innovation — planning and crafting, imagining and constructing — working with people and places committed to impact. Our work comes alive in communities, addresses complex social challenges, and changes the ways people interact.
What's This All About?
London is strangled and starved of creative spaces where creative, caring people can meet and work freely without pressure to buy expensive coffees or get out at closing time.
Matryoshka Haus create projects that change the world. But we can't do that at the moment because we don't have a space to welcome all kinds of creative brains.
Help us to create a radically hospitable space in London together, so we can welcome you in, with others.
The Plan
We need a home. And we've found a stunning place, which looks like the headquarters of an old milling company in the docks of London. It’s perfect – just the sort of place we all like. And I can imagine more wrecks of souls being washed up on the beach there,
and being pieced together by our community like I was.
The Problem
The big problem is that the space isn't set up for our needs. We need to fit it out with desks, furniture and storage that will enable us to work together and dream big.
What we’re planning is pretty exciting. We’re going to have a space for a design company, a social enterprise set up by Matyroshka Haus called the Transformational Index, hotdesking, a bedroom where visitors can stay, and of course a spacious kitchen with
living room attached.
We can go back to having a hub, and doing that divine welcome thing again.
Why It Matters
While we've been without a place to work together, the stream of ideas, new projects and new people coming on board has slowed. We feel like time is slipping through our fingers.
With our new space set up we know that out of it will come so many more ideas and people who will change the world. The space will be a hub for innovation, where more projects like The Truth Isn't Sexy, Sweet Notions and The Transformational Index
will be created.
If you don't know about our past work:
* The Truth isn't Sexy - a campaign to address the demand side of trafficking that impacted government and challenged the normalization of paid sexual services.
* Sweet Notions - we worked with women effected by homelessness where 100% of the women had an increase in confidence and 1 in 3 were employed and resettled.
* The Transformational Index - our tool for measuring impact that is helping organizations get better and trying to change the conversation about What Good Looks Like.
I can’t tell you how much it would mean to all of us… to have this space where we can invite people in. Invite them to eat, drink, create, enjoy, dream and take part in helping…
How You Can Help
Yes, we do need money to make this a reality. But we also need creative talent and donations in kind. Or you could even contact us to organise a
Learning Lab for your organisation.
