About Lily Spencer:
Lily is currently engaged as the Co-Director of Australia reMADE. She co-directs the strategic and daily work of Australia reMADE and hosts the reMAKERS podcast. She is interested in the intersection of politics, policy and well-being: in the conditions that foster both a healthy ‘me’ and a healthy ‘we’. She’s interested in solutions, in coming together, listening and learning. She’s also interested in the art and science of communication that respects our audience, builds common ground, ignites action and shifts what’s possible. She feels that most activism communications are problem-focused and crisis-driven. This can be effective in the short-term, but corrosive and exhausting over time. Moreover, research consistently finds that whether we’re talking about climate change, inequality or the outsized influence of money in our politics–people already believe in the problems. What they don’t believe in nearly enough are the solutions. It’s not our job to keep prosecuting the case for how things are bad, but to help people grab onto something better. That’s her mission: to communicate ideas that uplift, unite and show a way forward.
