Billions of dollars of medical donations have been wasted due to preventable problems. RxDonate’s mission is to solve a consistent set of problems that plague the efforts of medical teams in developing countries.
Our current objective is to create a self-sustaining, centralized online network capable of maximizing relief efforts by utilizing technologies now available in the developing world.
Currently, medical teams will go into an area more or less blind to the situation on the ground. We often hear “if I only knew” or “if we only had” something, “we could do much more while we are here”. This information
exists, but due to the number of people involved and the complexity of the situation, it is not available in a way that anyone can realistically use.
To have an impact, many organizations and individuals donate equipment, supplies, and drugs to the developing world. Depending on the situation, up to 80% of these donations don’t get used and are therefore effectively
worthless. Despite the greatest of efforts and cost in shipping, this is too often the norm.
RxDonate is working to address this problem by bringing the various players together in a way that maximizes communications, consolidates information, and tracks success in order to not only provide better healthcare
now, but to also track, learn from the past, and improve over time. To both the traveling and local clinicians, we provide resources to help them give the best care possible. To the donors, we provide information on their donation, allowing them to see where
it goes and to track stories over time. To all, it allows you to be part of a specific project. You can interact as much or little as you like.
$15,000 Tipping Point Goal
We’ve been bootstrapping our efforts to date and really need some help to get to the next level. The donations we are seeking will be used to:
1. Finish programming of the initial web-based system that will automate tracking of medical donations (the rocket science) allowing teams to find what they need around the world.
2. Provide a way to find and offer equipment and supplies. (initial users, early adopters)
3. Capture and send out stories on how the donations were used to make a difference. (thanks to donors, sustainability)
4. Travel to Haiti to deploy initial system.
5. Other features to help clinicians cure more patients (toolbox of cool stuff). Now a team can see resources at a destination hospital before they get there and plan accordingly.
6. Multi-lingual and logistics support. (the global part)
7. Enhance features including the ability to search for needed materials based on GPS coordinates via smart phone and/or text messaging (find stuff to save lives). Useful for regular and disaster
situations.
8. Tools and resources to help keep the donated equipment working. (extending the usefulness)
9. Travel to Haiti and possibly a second country to beta test the system prior to a general release to the public (the test) assuring RxDonate works well in various environments, cultures, languages
10. Test and improve the base system. (upkeep)
11. Many other features. (more cool stuff)
We are excited about our project and should have a sustainable effect. Your support should allow us to prove efficacy and acquire the additional support necessary to complete and fully deploy the
project globally. For more info: www.rxdonate.com
The initial tipping point of donations will allow us to complete the first set of core features (1-4). The remaining amount will enable us to add needed features and test/improve it in the field
(5-10)
Help us save a life. The more people who use it the better it will be and more lives will be saved on a sustainable basis. Thank you for your support and I hope to report success to you soon.
