Who We Are
Kito Onlus is a small and young
organization operating in emergencies and in disaster prevention.
It manages a mobile and energy auto-sustainable pre-fab unit useful as emergency health center with a capacity of 6 rooms for patients and a first aid ambulatory. It is equipped with a storage battery, a first aid kit and an emergency+communication kit.
At present, thanks to the support of ICLEI South East Asia, Kito Onlus has been able to deliver one Kito-Health unit to San Fernando La Unión in the Philippines.
Due to the catastrophic typhoon Haiyan we decided to open an Emergency Fund for Filipinos affected by the typhoon.
The Challenge We Face
Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda has struck. The
Philippines government has declared the state of national calamity and rescuers are facing highly critical conditions. The situation worsens every minute. It's time to roll up the sleeves for Filipinos!
Many other typhoons do as well every year, heavily affecting the ultra-poor and the most vulnerable people, and provoking
a considerable loss of lives, houses, livelihood and services. They also cause injuries, health problems, property damage, and social and economic disruption.
Despite the frequent occurrence of these calamities, many municipalities are not adequately equipped and health centers
can be easily overcrowded. Hospitals are likely to be flooded and cannot offer a safe shelter to vulnerable people. The main issue arising from natural catastrophes concerns the supply of a prompt and effective response to basic health needs and to the contagion
of various diseases.
What we can do is to support and implement projects capable of preventing unnecessary damages, offering relief to the
victims and preparing them to face future calamities.
This is where YOU come in!
Our Project
Thanks to the close partnership and cooperation with local actors, Kito Health represents an additional source of relief
for the hit population and serves as an example of a best practice face to natural catastrophes for local governments.
In the aftermath of the Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda, the city of San Francisco, municipality belonging to Camotes Islands archipelago (Province of Cebu) and in the heart of the hit region, has required
assistance to Kito Onlus. The population has finally started realizing there is a need for a more sustainable way of dealing with these events, as well as a need of training and organization to recover every time after a typhoon strikes.
Our fundraising campaign EMERGENCY PHILIPPINES will help buying and sending immunizations and medicines, directly to
the regions affected, in order to contain the emergency and bring relief.
We also want to launch a training including topics such as health, prevention, hygiene, nutrition, family planning,
security of children and their families during the post-emergency phase. Local populations need to know how to get up again after such disruptive events, as well as how to get ready and reduce the impact of such calamities.
We are asking therefore all our supporters help for the immediate purchase of medical material to be employed in San
Francisco. We want to provide the city and its inhabitant with a medical center purposely built for this sort of emergency.
