While young people in wheelchairs have little to no employment opportunities, these same young people being told by well meaning experts that they can’t do anything or they don’t know what to suggest in terms of where they can go for employment opportunities.
Another issue is social isolation among many young people in wheelchairs that refuse to attend daycare centres, as well as financial strains on the families involved as one parent generally has to make the sacrifice and give up their jobs to care for these
people.
In this time in history and the ever changing world of technology and the fact that these young people start working on computers from a very young age and for some it is their only form of communication. We at Kids with Ability decided that we could utilize
that skill to help them to become self-employed. We look at the individuals to ascertain what their passion is and help them to translate that into an Internet Marking business.
At Kids with Ability we are working towards raising funds to open our first Serviced Office/Business Incubator for people in wheelchairs and able bodied people who require an office to develop their businesses. This will allow
everyone in the Offices to socialize and share ideas with each other within the space. The results we have found so far with this idea is that it helps build self esteem and self worth for everyone and we will be nurturing young Entrepreneurs of the future.
In 2008 I was trying to figure out my purpose in life and what I was going to do in the future as my son was in Year 10 and heading towards the end of his schooling years. As he has Cerebral Palsy I was also wondering what was
going to be in his future. Around August I was invited to attend a weekend seminar on Internet Marketing and on the Sunday afternoon I had an epiphany that people like my son and his classmates could do something like that, and so the journey began…..
We have been operating for the last 2 years with the support of our local community and TAFE. Our guys have had their computer skills upgraded and learnt such skills as Blog development, website building and webinars, they have
also been given training in video marketing and while they may not be able to hold a camera, they can tell their carers what they want to put into the pictures. We have also found that they have grown in confidence, self esteem and self worth. It makes me
so proud when I hear them ask someone “how can we help you sell more products”. They no longer see it as, the world owes them, but what they can do for others. It is now time for us to move to the next level and show the world what we can do.
By supporting us you will be helping to build the futures of young Entrepreneurs. Their success is part of your success.
A very big thank you to Nikki Cooper from xpresswebvideo.com for you contribution of the video.
