We need your help to hire 2 disadvantaged youth.
Not all young people get an equal start in life.
One in seven Australian children and young people are living in poverty, where even life’s basics are hard to come by.
These people are on average 2-3 years behind in literacy and numeracy by the time they are 15, with only 58% completing Year 12.
Many don’t have the opportunity to finish high school because of family issues. This could be your childhood friend, neighbour or past classmates. Once the cycle of disadvantage begins, it is very difficult to escape.
Take Steve. From just 11 years old, he was living on the streets. At 14, he was already addicted to substances and suffering from depression and low self-esteem which originated from family and trauma issues.
So many young people have the determination and motivation to do something more. But often, people like Steve are constrained by circumstances out of their control.
LET’S CREATE A BRIGHTER FUTURE
Over the past 2 years, we have been expanding and reducing food wastage by saving to-be-thrown-away fruits and turning them into chutney.
Now, we want to use this model to invest in disadvantaged youth, and help them to transform their future. Specifically, we want to hire 2 disadvantaged youth and get them involved in our operational and distribution processes, and improve their education and employability.
We can together empower our future leaders from a donation as little as $1. Donate now!
OUR STORY SO FAR
Eric and I
(Crystal) are part of the team at Fortunate Food Co. We are a group of
passionate young university students looking to make a positive environmental
and social difference to the community. We transform surplus ugly fruit into delicious
chutneys, and use our profits to support disadvantaged youth.
Since inception in 2015, we’ve focused on improving our environmental impact. We’ve
- Distributed $400+ back to Youth Off The Streets through direct donations → 2 youth participants have since gained casual employment
- In 2017, we won the Waverly council small grants program and Unilever Sustainable Living Project Challenge
AND we’ve saved over 1t of off-spect tomatoes – all whilst studying full-time at uni!
Now, we want to create greater social impact. We’re so privileged in having a good education, a safe environment and a place we can call home. So we want to help others who aren’t as fortunate have the same.
We want to make sure that youths’ ability is not capped by their past or circumstances. That they can live up to their potential by giving them the opportunity to create their own future. We want to support them through education, empowering them to be future leaders.
Come and join us change the world, one jar of chutney, one young person at a time - donate now!
