Despite billions of dollars of investment and long-term commitment to addressing family and domestic violence, we continue to see rates and costs rise. Domestic violence costs the Australian economy $13.6 billion a year and the NSW economy $4.5 billion a year.
Vibewire's #Hack4DV brings Australia's leading technology, engineering, data and social impact students, social entrepreneurs and startups together to tackle the challenge of domestic violence.
Into this mix, we bring:
● Leading experts in the field of homelessness
● People with the shared or lived experience of domestic abuse.
● Local and international leaders seeking to address the myriad challenges that face those dealing with family and domestic violence.
“DV is occurring on a massive scale with NSW Police reporting over 27,000 domestic violence assaults in 2014. Our hack brings people and organisations together whether you’re in tech development, social policy, finance or architecture. We’re determined to drive change”, says Susan Shi, Executive Director of Vibewire.
“It poses a bigger health risk to women ages 18-44 than smoking, diabetes and obesity.” explains Susan Shi.
