About this Project - Give a carer a break
Carers are unpaid family and friends putting in long hours to support someone with disability, a mental health condition, chronic or terminal illness or an older person who needs care. Did you know one in eight Victorians is a carer? They might not call themselves a carer, but there are over 700,000 of them living in Victoria alone. Everybody knows somebody who cares. They are ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Anyone, any time can become a carer and the chances are you will care for someone or receive care at some stage in your life.
Our Project - we need your help to give carers a break!
Carers Victoria recognises the commitment and sacrifice carers make and we want to give some lucky carers a weekend off. Just a small contribution from you can make this happen!
We want to raise $5,000 so 10 carers can each have a weekend away at a beautiful property in a tranquil setting just an hour from the Melbourne CBD.
Why It Matters
People don’t choose to become a carer. We know that while caring has its rewards, it can be an exhausting, all-encompassing job. Carers often have to give up work or are under-employed. Their caring responsibilities take up a lot of time which means they can’t afford to go on holidays and relax.
They do a huge job which is valued at over $60 billion nationally, yet only a small proportion of carers receive a modest government allowance to support their caring role.
How You Can Help
Choose a reward from the schedule on the right or simply make a donation to give some deserving carers a weekend away.
Share this page on social media and encourage all your friends to donate as well.
