The problem
Ireland suffers from high unemployment and emigration. People have a longing to find rewarding work at home, but our traditional employment system is failing us. For many it seems like there is no hope. However, GET Local has a solution. Our greatest opportunity
lies in our biggest weakness - we are one of the Europes largest per capita energy importers! If we can create jobs to reduce our energy imports we can kill two birds with one stone. The easiest way to begin is to start by creating a resilient local food system,
since the one we currently have is the cause of 50% of a typical household's imported energy use.
Introducing the biabox
We're currently building out the biabox system. The biabox will allow people to order fresh local food online, and receive delivery by electric assist cargo trike - now increasingly accepted as the efficient way to move produce around urban
areas.
With the biabox, local producers get a fair price, and customers save money too. It includes fresh produce, dairy, meat, baked goods and beverages. By reducing the cost of sales and distribution, the
biabox makes it easier for more local producers to enter this marketplace and create their own sustainable employment.
