Fiona and I are attempting to raise enough money to build a 10 x 10 meter fence which will enclose a population of Common Ruddy Hood orchids (Pterostylis Squamata) which grow naturally in dry grassy forests. These orchids, despite their name, are not common and are considered a ‘significant’ species in the Nillumbik shire. Due to heavy predation and trampling from mammals, such as deer and kangaroos this species is at risk of being wiped out in the Dunmoochin area. In fact, trampling, as depicted in the picture, will almost certainly wipe out the largest known population of Common Ruddy Hood orchids in the Dunmoochin bush if this population is not fenced.
We have just finished (check out the fence in the picture section) a 30 x 20 meter fence which is protecting endangered White Caladenia (Caladenia catenata) and Tiny Caladenia orchids ( Caladenia pusilla).
We are therefore confident in our fencing skills. The only thing stopping us from fencing the common Ruddy Hood population at present is fencing materials. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Any person who donates 20 dollars will receive a wild flower print and a 50 dollar donation will warrant receiving a 'bee motel' or a wildflower tour on our property in Dunmoochin.
