WHAT WE ARE DOING
We help household-peppers better plan and prepare for natural and man-made disasters through a simple easy-to-use mobile app.
Okay, so ask yourself this…if a disaster suddenly struck your community. Do you feel like you’re REALLY prepared?
Do you feel like you are extra vulnerable because you are home-bound, have a disability, or otherwise depend on care takers who may or may not be there for you?
Do you know you need to prepare but avoid it like the plague because you don’t know where to begin?
Have you attended FEMA seminars and/or community preparedness events but are left with a lingering questions such as…“Am I truly prepared, and how does all of this pertain specifically to me?”
Maybe you even lived through a disaster and say to yourself…”I can handle this.”
I was a hurricane Sandy relief worker on the Jersey shore (as well as a disaster survivor myself). One of the biggest frustrations I encountered was the lack of coordinated effort among helping agencies delivering disaster assistance (even as they are well-meaning).
It was later I started Disaster Central (as a non-profit agency) set up to coordinate with social services case workers and to work with Volunteer Organizations Assisting in Disaster (VOAD). Our solution is the B-READY app that works on anyone’s cell phone, tablet, or iPad. It helps the recovery community increase the capacity to handle a sudden influx of assistance requests that might occur during a major disaster possibly simultaneously numbering in the tens of thousands. Jerome Hatfield FEMA Region II administrator said that during Hurricane Sandy over 14,000 calls to 911 went unanswered. The B-READY app would allow disaster survivors to own their information and then partner themselves with helping agencies in order to set out on a well-thought out meaningful (recovery path sooner rather than later). The partners would include government agencies non-profit relief organizations, insurance companies, and construction contractors.
OUR TEAM
Disaster Central is a nonprofit technology startup that leverages mobile technology in order to connect disaster-impacted populations with the vital services they need. Disaster Central is using Start Some Good Crowd funding platform in order to launch its program designed to better assist individuals, households, and small businesses during disasters.
Founder John Romano helped to establish a state-wide program in natural disaster recovery in the State of New Jersey shortly after Hurricane Sandy for a major non-profit organization. He planned, directed, and coordinated the activities of various social service disaster recovery programs. He also directed social service workers, volunteers, and disaster recovery counselors. They later served over 6,000 disaster survivors on the Jersey shore.
HOW OTHERS CAN HELP
Disaster Central is seeking technology funding to develop a mobile App (B-READY) a cloud-based case management solution. A donation to this campaign, downloading and deploying the app would help your family have an early place at the mantle to receive various forms of assistance if God forbid another major disaster should occur in your area. It would help you plan and put you on the road to an early recovery, alert partner agencies like FEMA, The Red Cross, and others. Part of this effort is designed to specifically give you a single-point-of-contact for actionable recovery information. Think of it as a supplemental disaster insurance policy for you and your household.
As the founder of Disaster Central, I would like to talk to you about B-READY, a groundbreaking preparedness app. We already have an interactive demo working. The specs are prepared, and we just need to hire some UI/UX developers to finish up. I expect this project to start right-away and be ready for distribution 3 to 4 months later. Our tipping point goal is $25,000 to hire the developers. Donate to our crowdfunding campaign by selecting a reward from the list on the right. We are so grateful for your support. You’ll get a free beta version of the app with your donation suitable for iPhone, Android and notebooks.. The proceeds of the raise will go towards coding and the release of the Beta version of the B-READY App. Our stretch goal of $50,000 will be used to assemble a back-end comprehensive database revolutionary to the recovery industry. It will also be used for Quality Assurance, testing of the App and incorporating changes from the Beta into Version 1 for release which all donors will receive.
Select a reward level to the right side, and thankyou for your donation! :)
