Nahel Afghan Community Centre (NACC, http://naccmy.wixsite.com/website) was founded in 2014 by Afghan refugees to help the community to integrate and assimilate better in Malaysia. NACC is recognized by UNHCR (the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) and liaise with them on legal and logistics matters pertaining to the community. NACC also works with partners and donors to organize classes to address weaknesses in the community.
NACC focuses a lot on the children, and creates a lot of activities for them. One of the activities is taking them out on field trips.
The majority of our community has missed the opportunity for education when we had to flee our homeland, Afghanistan, into the unknown. Computer knowledge, a necessity in our fast changing world is leaving behind the Afghan refugees. Our community, in particular our children, needs to have basic computer skills to keep up with the dynamic work place and life.
NACC computer classes will raise the opportunity for our community. These classes will also help our children to have basic skills that will help raise their self-confidence and awareness of the world around them.
NACC intends to have computer classes for 6 months, every week. We will be conducting a survey to find the best time and day to conduct the classes. The classes will be divided into three categories, Basic, Beginners and Children.
“I want to learn the computer because I want to upgrade myself and also to teach my family especially my siblings” – Rahman Sharifi, 16, community member
“I believe computer classes will help me because everything in life now requires some computer skills. Every small situation can be resolved with a computer” – Mohammad Ali, 16, community member
“I want my children to attend computer classes. I want my children to be better than me and be able to fulfill their potential. I believe computer classes is important.” - Mohammad Jan, 38, father & community member
