Problem
How might we help relieve mental health issues among our youth using horticultural therapy
Solution
We are creating Cerebrum as a
response to a major issue we’ve experienced within the youth of our generation-
the prominence of stress and rising mental illness. We believe that through the
implementation of horticultural therapy in everyday life that we can provide
people with a simple way to create habit and ritual through meditative
practices.
The Cerebrum product utilises plants that posses medicinal properties to help relive specific mental health issues. your plant will also come with a handcrafted pot that has a clear glaze enabling you to write on the pot as if it was a white board. This design feature enables you to personalise and make it your own. The idea is that you can make it your own mark the days that you’ve taken care of the plant or even just use it to customise your pot. This routine of watering and taking the time to care for a plant can help to reduce stress and symptoms of mental health issues.
Meet the team behind Cerebrum?
We are four year 10 students attending Canterbury Girls High School who have developed the Cerebrum project with the help of MakerSpace and Co. We were a part of a Youth Incubator run by Young Change Agents and were selected based on an application we submitted.
Our number one goal is to solve the growing prominence of
mental health issues within the youth of today. We believe that through the
implementation of horticultural therapy in everyday life that we can provide
people with a simple way to create habit and ritual through meditative
practices. Through our own experiences we have found that the application of
routine in our life is beneficial for our own mental health. And we hope to help those who are in need.
More than just a product...
To share the story with others and provide a network of support, there will be a website with activities, resources and news stories to help you along your journey. The website will also include a digital booklet with a calendar to keep track of the days you've taken care of your plant.
