Who We Are:
Pink Pearls of Hope Breast Cancer Organization was founded in January 2010 by Dr. LaRay “Imani” Price. Dr. Price became interested in breast cancer issues in women after her paternal grandmother, Ms. Mary L. Price-Lee, was diagnosed with breast cancer in the late 1980s. Ms. Price-Lee reported coping with her breast cancer diagnosis through faith and constant prayer. Her prayers comforted her fears and gave her the desire to continue pursuing most of her precious activities. Ms. Price-Lee believed her journey with breast cancer was improved by her faith in God, which: (a) provided her with the courage to live life to its fullest; (b) the hope that her life could make a difference in the lives of others; and (c ) the faith to believe she could live a happy life despite having breast cancer. Through her faith and eventual medical care, she lived a high-quality life for many years. Ms. Price-Lee’s way of coping with breast cancer placed Dr. Price on a journey towards understanding more about the impact of spirituality and the psychosocial factors in with women coping with breast cancer.
Our Mission:
We are committed to inspiring women of color to take control of their health through informative, interactive, and entertaining multidimensional wellness experiences.
Our Project:
Our Cancer Chemo Hope and Healing Care Baskets are helpful, inspirational, and beautiful. These baskets help address cancer patients' unique needs of addressing the emotional and physical side effects from chemotherapy and radiation.
Our Cancer Chemo Hope and Healing Care Baskets are also cheerful, attractive gifts designed to comfort, heal, and cheer. We believe these baskets will be a source of encouragement for any woman facing a life challenge like cancer. When a friend, family member, coworker, employee or loved one receives a basket, they know that someone cares and supports them in their quest toward healing.
Every basket is a powerful symbol of love, hope, and grace.
Why It Matters:
According to the American Cancer Society (2015), it is estimated that more than 1.6 million new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in 2015. Among women, breast (29%), lung (13%), and colon & rectum (8%) cancers are the most common cancers. Among the women who are diagnosed, a percentage of them are single or do not have families available to assist them while they are in chemo or radiation treatments. Having a cancer diagnosis leave many women feeling sad, lonely, and stressed. All women can use some hope while they are working towards their healing.
