What are we raising money for?
Every year in Kenya hundreds of mothers die due to complications during child birth because the medical facilities where they deliver their children are unable to give blood transfusions. The impact on the family is devastating beyond words and it's such a simple thing to fix.
We are raising £11,000 (around $14,000) for the Katito Hospital to buy the equipment to save the lives of these mothers and to provide vital transfusion services for other patients such as small children with complicated malaria cases and sufferers of sickle-cell disease.
How much do we need to raise?
We want to raise £11,000 (around $14,000) and for this we can buy a full haemogram test machine, a blood bank fridge and a digital waterbath.
Who are we?
Footsteps for Africa is a UK charity working in Katito, Kenya since 2004. We are a charity that focuses on changing the lives of children living in the desperately poor communities around Kisumu, near Lake Victoria in Kenya. It is run entirely by volunteers and every penny raised goes to fund our work in Kenya.
Our mission
Our aim is to enable Kenyan children to reach their potential to become healthy, educated, self-sustaining and contributing individuals who can take a leading role in improving their own lives and the lives of those in the communities in which they live.
What have we done?Over the years we have invested over half a million pounds in infrastructure in the Katito Hospital and 11 schools and colleges in the area. We are sponsoring 90 children to ensure that they go to school and our support will take them through to either university level or vocational training. We have also taken 200 volunteers to Kenya during our summer trip when we organise an activity week at the schools we have built.
Use of funds
100% of the money we receive in donations goes to our work in Kenya. Any money spent on administration is paid for by the tax refunded to us through the UK government's giftaid scheme. You can be sure that every penny or cent you give will go to pay for the equipment we are trying to buy.
