Beales Road Farm is an urban agriculture project in Greensborough in Melbourne's north.
The farm operates under a landshare agreement with a local man who had an acre of his property that lay unused whilst he had a need for social interaction with community members he could trust.
Beales Road Farm is operated by experienced local food gardening team The ‘Veggie Empire’.
The Veggie Empire consists of a collective of horticulturalists that includes two trainees with intellectual disability. These trainees aspire to be employed in the urban agriculture sector and the project at Beales Road Farm aims to deliver this in the future as it becomes a fully operational social enterprise.
The hands on nature of the activity of gardening coupled with the intensive support provided by our vocational ‘buddy’ system allows trainee food farmers to develop and maintain their skills as they work towards their chosen vocation.
The large food production system has capacity to grow a significant amount of pesticide free produce and is already providing good yields for use by the farm team, the landholder Hayden and to be sold at weekly farm gate sales.
The missing element for Beales Road Farm's future success is water supply. Currently the market garden has no irrigation making year round vegetable production unachievable.
By contributing to our campaign you will be helping fund our irrigation system and support this fantastic inclusive local food initiative go to the next level.
Beales Road Farm......... Just add water!
