It's a secret
Kangaroo Island's rich visual art community is the island's best kept secret. It's time our notable artists became as well known as the island's landscapes, native animals, and tasty produce.

Our solution
Born of a wild island, a living, inspiring, unforgettable art space that enriches, enlightens and intrigues - that's how we see the Art Museum of Kangaroo Island.
The striking building would be placed to take in a sweeping island vista. It would house a permanent exhibition of current and historic island art, host travelling and temporary exhibitions, and include workshop space and an outdoor installation space.
It would bring a tide of people and artists from across the world, and raise Kangaroo Island art and artists to their rightful prominence.

About us
We volunteers ( that's us in the video: artist Deb, business consultant Sarah, artists Ria and Janine, and writer Kathie) came together to realise our shared vision for such a gallery. The catalyst was our own Island to Inland exhibition (currently touring South Australian regional galleries) could not be exhibited here because there was no suitable venue.
We are just starting on what we think will be a project of at least six years and millions of dollars for us to open the doors. We have the vision, and the determination, to see this through.
For more information visit our website and use the form to contact us with any questions. And keep up to date by following our news on Twitter.

Who's on our side
'This is a very exciting ambition for Kangaroo Island and South Australia. We are happy to help the project succeed.’ Nick Mitzevich, Director, Art Gallery of South Australia
Our plans have also been well received by Kangaroo Island Council - which has awarded us a Community Partnerships Grant for three-quarters of our strategic planning fee - the Commissioner for Kangaroo Island, Kangaroo island Brand Alliance, and the island's two community visual arts groups, and many people in the Kangaroo Island community and beyond. We hope you'll join them.

What you'll be helping us to do
We have to choose the location and design of the art museum, and then build it. We'll find out how much money we'll actually need as we go. But to get going we need seed funding.
Even this most imaginative idea has to be based on a solid, if boring, foundation. The base fund you’ll help us build will pay for completing a comprehensive strategic plan and developing a feasibility study and realistic fundraising plan; for the website, promotion materials and fees; for travel to the mainland to pitch for the big bucks; and for joining the organisations that will give us the contacts and kudos to raise that money.
