The nuclear industry is out of sight, out of mind in Autralia. Since the 1980s the ACE collective (Anti-Nuclear and Clean Energy) at Friends of the Earth have run Radioactive Exposure Tours to show individuals the realities of radioactive racism and the
toxic legacy left by uranium mining. We need a bus to become independent of hire companies, to make the Tours more accessible and as a general community resource for other environmental and social justice campaigns in our community.
The Bus Team is made up of experienced, mechanically-minded individuals with many years of activist road-trips under our collective belt. We are reliable and committed and would love the chance to transport many people to see some of the most beautiful and
threatened places in this country. Experience is one of the most powerful motivators to work for change and we want to show people a slice of the real Australia.
An option we'd like to explore is converting the bus to run off vegetable oil. Two members of the collective have converted their vehicles and having been travelling for many thousands of kilometres on used vegetable oil, donated by bemused take-away joints.
There is nothing quite as satisfying as overtaking a petrol-guzzling 4WD on a long journey off a hot chip by-product!
