AIDS Project Greater Danbury needs your help:
It is the goal of AIDS Project Greater Danbury (APGD) to ensure a safe welcoming space for our clients.
WHY IT MATTERS
People living with HIV/AIDS have faced stigma for many, many years. In most cases, APGD is the only support system that they have, as all others have left their side because of fear of their illness. Our clients face several challenges; in addition to HIV and AIDS, most of our clients suffer from mental health, substance abuse and homelessness.
Major funding sources for HIV/AIDS have been drastically reduced over the last 10 years. Funding that is received barely pays for overhead and direct client care. Extra essentials such as furniture, building repairs and office equipment is not funded. We are reaching out to the community in the hopes that people will support our efforts to create a new space for our clients.
OUR PROJECT
Current furniture is old and frayed. This further stigmatizes clients when they walk in the door and see the condition of the waiting room. We want to create a space that staff can be proud of and that clients will be happy to visit.
Specifically...
Our couches, carpeting and chairs are worn, torn and falling apart. With your help, we simply want to make our space inviting. We are working with some local furniture and carpeting stores to receive discounted prices on:
- 4 chairs
- 2 couches
- wall-to-wall carpeting througout the first floor
- painting the walls and repairing holes
Depending on our donations, we have several furniture selections we are looking at. Your donations will determine what we are able to purchase.
Our Director of Behavioral Health:
Joanne Montgomery, Director of Behavioral Health said "Life is a about choice, change and chance. Our clients did not choose to get the HIV virus, by chance they found us, and it is our hope that we can help them change and obtain a long, healthy and happy life. This can only happen with the generous support of others."
We are proud to say that we have successfully raised over a million dollars over the course of 10 years in our Hope Golf Tournament. People want to help and we hope you do, too!
