Capital Scraps carries out Community Composting in Canberra for Climate Action
Capital Scraps (formerly the Hackett Compost Collective) has been collecting kitchen scraps from the inner North of Canberra for the past two years, with over 150 households being involved. But we want to do more! Thousands of tonnes of household kitchen scraps end up in our landfill where they go on to produce methane. We know this resource can be better managed and we have a plan that is easily scale-able to enable us to recycle these scraps wherever the demand to do so exists in our community.
We need a little help to reach more Canberra households and rescue more carbon
We are committed to low resource operations, especially when it comes to energy and carbon footprint in general. Our trusty electric trike gets us to all corners of the Inner North but it's time to reach farther. We have households who have 'pledged' to recycle their scraps with us and an electric van with enable us to get to them. Once we extend our composting network, those potato peels and corn cobs will add up and we'll have to build more of our beautifully desgined and constructed urban composting hubs.
By helping fund our new van you'll be showing your commitment to community composting and all of the benefits it can bring.
