10 Ways, 10 Days (10/10)
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”- Margaret
Mead
Discover ten practical ways to end the oppression of girls and women worldwide!
10/10 is a campaign to empower girls and women around the world in the 10 days leading up to International Women’s Day (IWD) March 8 2015.
We are crowdfunding with a view of raising $5,000 so that we can spread the word about a campaign we believe has the capacity impact thousands of lives.
We were exhausted by all of the negative statistics AND we were angry that girls and women are still being oppressed in this day and age..
SO…
We decided to do something about it. And that is what 10/10 is all about!
10/10 is a call to action. We are asking people to complete one or all ten actions.
10 Actions:
1. Learn
2. Advocate
3. Raise awareness
4. Get creative
5. Sign a petition
6. Make a donation
7. Volunteer
8. Buy for good
9. Use social media
10. Host or attend and event
WHY is 10/10 important?
Because the oppression of girls and women in the developing world has been described as our generations ‘most pervasion human rights violation’ (Nicholas Kristof).
Some of the key challenges facing girls & women around the world are;
- Early marriage
- Discrimination
- Gender-based violence
- Inequality
- Slavery
- Sex trafficking
10/10 aims to right some of these wrongs by mobilising people to take action. Positive, effective action that will empower girls & women.
Empowerment is the key!
“There is no tool for development more effective than the empowerment of women. No other policy is as likely to raise economic productivity, or to reduce infant and maternal mortality. No other policy is as sure to improve nutrition and promote
health—including the prevention of HIV/AIDS. No other policy is as powerful in increasing the chances of education for the next generation. And I would also venture that no policy is more important in preventing conflict, or in achieving reconciliation after
a conflict has ended.”
-Kofi Annan, former United Nations Secretary General
THE SOLUTION:
YOU + ME
We believe that is change is possible!
More importantly we believe that it’s up to YOU and it’s up to ME
to be part of the solution.
We may not be able to change the whole world is one shot, but if we all do our little bit, we may be able to make some headway, right?
People often get stuck crossing the chasm between being interested in social issues and their ability to act. We see 10/10 as the beginning point of someone’s activism experience. A doorway to creating greater change and a raised level of understanding.
“Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”
-Desmond Tutu
The journey so far:
Over the past two years, we’ve ran a similar campaign, with great success called; 100 Ways, 100 Days (same idea, just over a longer timeframe). Over this time we’ve refined and developed the 10/10 concept into what it is today.
