Inspiration
"The impact we have on each other is the most important thing in life" –
These words by Professor Huhn have inspired us to form
Students Embracing a Legacy – a grassroots student group that was created to honor the retirement of Professor Wilson R. Huhn from The University of Akron’s School of Law and to carry on his example of
practicing public service by encouraging others to do the same.
Professor Huhn will make a symbolic 25 mile walk to his final week of teaching at the School of Law on the Towpath Trail through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Professor Huhn sees his walk as “a step in to retirement” and a time for reflection, and we at
Students Embracing a Legacy want to take a step toward bringing awareness to practicing public service and assisting students in need.
SUPPORT PUBLIC SERVICE
This crowd funding event was created to bring awareness to the fact that
students in the School of Law and Public Administration and Urban Studies program are not only committed to being successful lawyers and public administrators but to
being good public servants as well. Professor Huhn has stressed giving back to the community as a highly prized quality to possess and it is important that this trait is cultivated in today's college students.
In honor of the walk and the organization’s goal of encouraging public service, Students Embracing a Legacy has created this crowd funding event to raise monies for two funds, created to
support students in need:
The Student Emergency Fund is a brand new fund created as the School of Law Class of 2015 class gift. Discretionary disbursements from this fund will be used to assist law students experiencing personal or financial crises.
The Student Support Fund is also new and will benefit students from the Public Administration and Urban Studies program to assist in them furthering their research and studies, and specifically to attend beneficial or required conferences.
You can give to the fund that you wish to support! No matter which fund you choose, you are making a difference in a student's life and allowing them to continue their path to being a successful public servant.
GAINING KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICING PUBLIC SERVICE
The University of Akron's School of Law has created several clinics to help community members in need. The Certificate for Qualification for Employment aids people with convictions to obtain gainful employment; The Human Trafficking Clinic, which helps the
victims of Human Trafficking; The Reentry Clinic to aid low income ex-offenders obtain pardons for their convictions; and The Expungement Clinic which helps ex-offenders seal their conviction record.
“All of the clinics are staffed almost entirely by volunteer law students,” said Joann Sahl, professor of law and director of The University of Akron School of Law Reentry Clinic. “The law school has a pro bono community service requirement
for graduation so the hours in the clinic can count toward it. Many students come back month after month, long after this requirement is met.”
“One of the great things about the reentry clinic is the value it provides to our students,” said Matthew J. Wilson, Dean of The University of Akron School of Law. “From the first day of law school, students have the unique opportunity to sit down and interview
clients and prepare paperwork that will enable the clients to become productive members of society. Without the help of this clinic, many of these people may not be able to get jobs, so there is an
immediate benefit to society.”

IMPACT
We recognize the importance of public service as a way to
give back to the community and as an important factor in a student's development.
By drawing attention to Professor Huhn's walk and his legacy of giving, we wish to focus attention on how important practicing good service is for the community. And what better way to start honoring public service than assisting the next generation of public
servants by supporting the education of today's students?
Your donations will help support a student in need and allow them to continue and further their studies and research as they learn their craft and experience the importance of practicing good service.
Remember you can donate to either fund, The Student Emergency Fund benefits Law students, The Student Support Fund benefits students in the Public Administration and Urban Studies program.
