My 'side' of the world is faced with a myriad of problems and through the tripartite
SAVE PROJECT, I seek to address the most pressing issues.
OUR VISION
My vision is to save the lives of homeless Almajiri in Nigeria. I also want to provide pipe borne water for the Chakala and Ekaala communities so as to combat the outbreak of water borne diseases and to improve the quality of education in some high schools
by providing them computer labs and libraries.
BACKGROUND TO THE PROJECTS
SAVE A CHILD: When I first came to Zamfara state, Nigeria, I noticed a set of young boys aged between 3-16 years scatterd all through the state in their thousands, living in inhumane conditions, trekking several
kilometers daily to beg and scavenge for food even from dumpsites, sleeping on the bare concrete in street corners. Most have not had a bath in months or seen any change of clothing; they wear torn and ragged clothes, sleep on street corners and are infected
by all manner of body infections like ringworms, eczema and the likes. They may never see their families again.
At first I thought it was not my problem, until I had a drammatic encounter with some of the kids. Aside watching them get into a bitter, deadly fight over a little left-over food tossed to them on several occasions, I sat in an
open air kiosk two months ago for a little breakfast of bread, egg and a bottle of coke as I watched the kids swarm around in their usual manner. Just as I finished my coke and dropped the bottle beside me, a boy rushed up, picked up the bottle as if to return
it to the crate, lifted it to his mouth and waited patiently for the last drop of watever I may have remained to wet his hungry tongue. The tears came to my eyes instantly and I started to do something.
That is why i came up with the
SAVE A CHILD arm of
THE SAVE PROJECT, to help these ones.
I implore you to help them. Together we can change their perception of themselves and attract government support. I forsee a future where they can live under good conditions and acquire both formal and religious education, so that
they can in turn give back to society and the world at large.
SAVE A SCHOOL: I had to bring out my laptop someday in a school to type a document and in a few minutes, I had over 50 senior secondary school students trampling themselves over to catch a glimpse of the 'wonder
machine' I was using. It pricked me to see that these ones may never have practical computer trainings. I surveyed several schools and discovered none with a computer laboratory, let alone a library. Some of the schools teach computer as a subject but they
simply draw it for them on the chalk board. Nothing more! If we do not do something, education today cannot be considered complete without practical computer education/trainings. That's why I came up with the
SAVE A SCHOOL arm of the
SAVE PROJECT to help raise funds to setup a computer laboratory and libraries in some of the schools identified.
SAVE A LIFE: Here in my host community I have seen what the lack of portable drinking water is doing to them. I've seen the health challenges evident in how crowded the medical centers are, and the inconvenience
they have to go through to access clean water.
Most of them here do not know or have that much due to poverty and illiteracy. Also, those in the Chakala and Ekaala communities have to travel to the nighboring communities to get water from wells. The wells dry up during the
dry season, leaving them with more frustration. Thats why i came up with the
SAVE A LIFE arm of
THE SAVE PROJECT seek your support for these ones to save them from water borne diseases and bring portable drinking water closer to the two communities.
HOW WE CAN HELP
1. To address the
SAVE A CHILD project We're raising funds to provide relief materials for the Almajiri kids. Things like, fairly used clothes, footwear, writing materials, toilet and bathroom, blankets, mosquito nets, water purification tablets, food, soap,
toiletries, etc to help ease their lives.
2. To address the
SAVE A SCHOOL project, we're raising funds to set up 3 computer labs in 3 secondary (high) schools in Gusau town, as well as setting up 2 libraries in 2 schools, so as to give their education a facelift.
3. To address the
SAVE A LIFE project, we're raising funds to drill a borehole with overhead tanks in the Chakala and Ekaala community, as well as carrying out a water purification seminar/campaign to teach them the needs for water purification and we'll
donate aquatabs to them.
