At Project Epona, our aim is to facilitate & promote equine welfare by rescue, rehabilitation & rehoming of neglected, abandoned & slaughter bound equines on the NSW Mid North Coast.
Unfortunately there is a big demand for horse rescue groups all over the country. Overbreeding, pressure from enviromentalists & graziers to reduce wild herd numbers, the wastage of the racing industry, droughts & the rising cost of feed & horse care products
& services see countless numbers of equines, suffering & /or headed for slaughter each year. With care & retraining, many of these souls can be spared this fate & have a second chance at a happy & healthy life.
At present we can take in a small number of horses in need at a time. Once rehabilitated horses will be available to approved homes under a lifetime adoption contract.
After rescuing horses for decades (& giving a lifetime home to most of them) I decided to form a registered charity with the aim of raising funds to be able to continue this work into the future & hopefully develop it on a larger scale so more horses in
our area can be helped. Locally we have acesss to excellent equine professionals, such as vets, farriers, dentists, chiropractors & trainers. I was fortunate to have four other enthusiastic horse lovers join me in this quest & so Project Epona was born in
the winter of 2014.
The name "Project Epona" came from the Celtic goddess Epona who was the protector of horses.. The custodian of horses, donkeys & mules , Project Epona is located at "Xanadu" in the Upper Lansdowne Valley on the NSW Mid North Coast, 20km from Taree.
We have the paddocks, we have the passion & we have the proffesional contacts to help us.
Now we need your help to raise the funds to grow & develop this charity into the future so we can give as many horses as possible a second chance & help educate the public on horse care & responsible breeding.
Project Epona Incorporated is registered with the Australian Charities & Not-For-Profit Commission. We are run by volunteers. All donations are greatly appreciated & go into the care & training of the horses and keeping the rescue going. Every cent helps.
