The Impact
Students in rural areas, lack access to basic educational infrastructure. As basic as a desk, a bag, a light source to study at night. 91 million students world wide lack access to education.Most of the students in rural part of the world and some in urban
as well have to sit down on floor for long studying hours. 9 in 10 people face posture related problems and back injuries at some point of time in their life. Sitting on floor and studying for 6-8 hours affects posture, resulting in back pain, poor eye sight,
inefficiency to concentrate and study.
Rural areas in mostly all the countries face power cuts for several hours. Generally people are habituated to not having access to electricity. 1 in 3 people across the globe lack access to electricity. For households to perform their daily task and for children
to study at night, fossil fuel (kerosene / cow dung) is used to create a light source. Mother’s use this light to cook and perform daily tasks, while children use this light source to play, little do they know that the burning biomass fuel can cause death.
There are a little more than 500000 deaths in India alone every year due to inhalation of the flames caused by burning biomass. Lacking access to light source forces the children to study in hazardous environment.
The Solution:
YELO, an intelligently designed school bag, helps children carry their books, belonging, irrespective of the weather conditions. The same bag with a single fold technique smartly transforms into a school desk. The desk offers and angle of 30- 35 degrees
for students to write and read, thus ensuring they maintain an ergonomic posture while studying.
1 in 3 people across the globe lack access to electricity. Remote areas face heavy power cuts, thereby making it difficult for children to study at night. Yelo is built with a LED light source, to delivering light for more than 6-8 hours, thus empowering
students and rural household to carry out their evening chores.
Yelo comes with a handy solar kit that powers the LED light. The rechargeable battery in solar kit can be charged through solar energy as well as supports AC charging. Solar kit can also be used for other application like charging mobile phones in case of
emergency.
