Positive words empowering people.
That's what the Department of Public Words is all about. This is an organization created for the community, supported by the community.
Our History
In 2007 we worked with the You Are Beautiful project to create the YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL installation on the Murphy Arts Center (which we have great plans for restoring this year - stay tuned for more details).

We have much more public positivity planned for 2014 including positive artwork on traffic signal boxes, placing positive messages on food pantry donations, positive life skill training through art for juvenile offenders, and crowd murals such as the one
pictured below.
Why We Do It
Human beings are bombarded daily with a barrage of negativity. From the naysaying news story telling us how bad things are to the unaffirming advertisement telling us we're not attractive enough. Unfortunately, negativity
is everywhere. The Department of Public Words opposes this negativity through simple, direct, positive public messages - with both positive art and positive spoken words. We envision a world in which the prevalence of positive messages inspires individuals
to overcome the negative influences holding them back from attaining their life potential. Simply put, it's positive words empowering people.
Changing the world is no small task. It's everyone's responsibility to do what they can to make a difference. By supporting the Department of Public Words, you're saying "NO!" to the negativity and "YES!" to a brighter
future in which positivity is the pathway to a better world for everyone.
It's simple, really - we love people. We want to show our love for people, and giving them positive messages of hope, encouragement, and inspiration is the way we do it. No strings attached. We don't
want them to buy a product or service. We don't want them to join a club or pay a subscription fee. We just want people to know that they are valuable and loved.
What's in it for You?
Most importantly, you will know that you are making a difference in countless people's lives who will be impacted by the positive art installations and murals, public speaking engagements, and in serving the underserved.
Secondly, there are cool rewards. Thank you postcards, positive message stickers, magnets, T-shirts, and a custom positive message mural for your office, school, or home will empower you to spread public positivity
on your own. AND, we also have 8 artist proof posters signed by Obama HOPE poster artist, Shepard Fairey!

Dave and Holly Combs
are wonderful people as well as the founders of PEEL Zine. They took the risk of following their artistic passion and have paid the price of losing their home. I created this print with and for them to raise money to help with their huge debt. PEEL has helped
to support and grow the street art community and I believe they deserve to have the favor returned. Profits from this print go to help the Combs family. Please help out.
