Lost In Books is a multilingual bookshop, café, creative learning & language exchange hub, and safe women's space coming to South-Western Sydney, Australia's most culturally diverse community.
Lost in Books offers a bountiful public program around books, literacy, multilingual conversation, and wellbeing. It's for children, young people and adults from Anglo-Australian and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Staffed by bilingual workers, Lost In Books promotes multilingual literacy, community safety, connectedness and exchange. It's a social enterprise bookshop, which means that any profits will be reinvested back into the project. Places like Lost In Books can be life-changing for the people who use them; please watch our video to hear about how our programs will help the community.
Lost in Books is the brainchild of Jane Stratton and her small team at Think + Do Tank Foundation. We've worked hard to secure support from some fantastic foundations and community organisations, and now we need your help to bring Lost In Books to life. You can support the crowdfunding campaign right here, by making a tax-deductible donation* and enjoying one of the rewards, or if you can't afford to donate but you think this is a great idea, please help us by sharing this campaign with friends by email or on social media, like Facebook.
Your support will enable Lost in Books to:
- Secure premises;
- Acquire books and equipment to open the shop and the cafe;
- Fit out the premises so that children and their mums absolutely love it; and
- Recruit a manager.
Our running costs are much reduced because local community services see Lost in Books as a smart and effective way to connect with women and children in segments of the community that are often difficult to reach, so they've officially offered their in-kind support to our programs.
Our partners include:
Bonnie Support Services
Liverpool Migrant Resource Centre
Liverpool Women's Resource Centre
and Allen & Unwin Book Publishers
We also appreciate the support of Liverpool City Council and Fairfield City Council.
Special thanks to our philanthropic supporters so far:
