Bright Sparks is the winner of Pitch for Good by CIty of Melbourne and recipient of a $3000 grant prize from Forming Circles Fund.
Our vision is to eliminate electrical and electronic waste, or e-waste, in Australia.
E-waste is one of the fastest growing types of waste worldwide, and it can leach metals and toxic chemicals into the ground. We want to ensure a better environment for future generations, with less risk of contamination from e-waste.
United Nations University reported that Australians threw out 468,000 tonnes of e-waste in 2014, about 20kg per person. (The world average was 5.9kg per person.) Other reports have estimated twice that amount.
There is currently no dedicated place in Melbourne where you can take your unwanted small appliances and know for sure that they will be reused or recycled responsibly.
Bright Sparks will give Melburnians three new options:
1.
Donate. unwanted or broken appliances to us, at our workshop or donation points throughout Melbourne. We’ll give them new life and sell them in our shop or donate
to people in need. Broken items will be repaired or recycled responsibly.
2.
Repair. If an appliance breaks and you want to keep it going, we can fix it for you at our workshop.
3.
Buy. We’ll sell good-as-new kitchen appliances, household appliances, electronics and a special range of revamped lamps, fixed up with vintage fabrics. All
products will be tested and tagged and come with a warranty.

Help us grow
We're a registered charity and a social enterprise, launching in August. We have the potential to become financially sustainable in a few years, but we'll need grants and donations (that's you!) to help us get there while we get the word out and build our
customer base. These things take time.
